Budget and legislative proposals in Washington are raising questions about the future of federal financial support for rural affordable rental housing projects and how these much-needed developments will be funded in coming years.

Property data and rural market analyses suggest that the USDA Rural Development’s Section 538 Guaranteed Rural Rental Housing Program provides a beneficial service by financing new affordable rural rental housing properties and preserving older Section 515 apartment developments.
