NH&RA officials on behalf of the Council for Energy Friendly Affordable Housing (CEFAH) met in mid-March with senior executives of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on energy efficiency issues. NH&RA and CEFAH are seeking support at HUD and the U.S. Department of Energy for ways to increase the share of federal Weatherization Assistance Program funds set aside for multifamily rental housing projects, and to make it easier for owners of rental developments to access these funds.

CEFAH met to discuss this and others issues on March 12 at NH&RA’s 2010 Annual Meeting.

Separately, NH&RA has also been meeting with HUD officials to discuss forthcoming changes to underwriting standards, lender qualification, and others areas in the FHA multifamily mortgage insurance programs, to assure that the reforms encourage rather than deter FHA financing of affordable rental housing projects in a timely and cost-effective manner.
