Representatives of the HOPE VI Working Group of the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association (NH&RA), a multifamily housing trade group, met with HUD Secretary Steven Preston on 11/10/08 to discuss operational and asset management issues with projects funded under HUD’s mixed-finance and HOPE VI public housing redevelopment programs. The Working Group delegation presented a recommendation that HUD create a “mixed-finance operations coordinator” at HUD Headquarters. NH&RA suggested that a central resource on operational issues, working in partnership with HUD’s Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Housing Investments, would benefit private-sector participants, public housing authorities, and help assure HUD of the continued viability of completed HOPE VI and mixed-finance properties.
