NH&RA Presents 2008 Timmy Awards to Recognize Top Historic Projects

The National Housing & Rehabilitation Association (NH&RA) presented its 2008 “Timmy” Awards to nine standout historic rehabilitation projects at an awards ceremony in Boston on 10/27/08 during the NH&RA 2008 Fall Forum conference.

The awards honor outstanding real estate projects throughout the U.S. that involve the rehabilitation of older, historic buildings using federal and/or state historic tax credits.

The 2008 J. Timothy Anderson Awards for Excellence in Historic Rehabilitation were co-sponsored by the National Trust Community Investment Corporation, a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Timmy Awards are named after the late Boston architect and preservation advocate J. Timothy Anderson.

In the 2008 awards competition, one winner in each of seven categories plus two honorable mentions were selected.

The 2008 categories, and the name, location, and developer of the winning project receiving a Timmy Award in each category, were: Affordable Housing – Large (Total Development Cost (TDC) Above $5 Million), The Georgian Court Apartments, Kansas City, MO, AB Apartments, LP/Eagle Point Company; Affordable Housing – Small (TDC of $5 Million or Less), The Sentney Lofts, Hutchinson, KS, Garrison Development Company; Mixed-Income Housing, Globe Tobacco Lofts, Mount Airy, NC, The Landmark Group; Market-Rate Residential, Royal Mills at Riverpoint, West Warwick, RI, Struever Bros., Eccles & Rouse; Most Innovative Adaptive Re-Use and/or Commercial Rehabilitation, The Commons at Plant Zero, Richmond, VA, Richard Gregory/Tom Papa; Best Historic Rehab or Adaptive Re-Use for Hotel/Hospitality, Cavallo Point – The Lodge at the Golden Gate, Fort Baker/Sausalito, CA, Equity Community Builders, LLC; and Best Sustainable/Green Historic Rehab, White Stag Block, Portland, OR, Venerable Group, Inc.

Honorable Mention Awards went to: The Liberty Hotel, Boston, MA, Peter Diana and Darrin Messina, Carpenter & Company, Inc.; and The Hanover Theatre for Performing Arts, Worcester, MA, Worcester Center for the Performing Arts.
