Tax Credit Advisor, January 2009: The U.S. Census Bureau has released the first comprehensive data since 2000 for more than 2,500 mid-sized counties, cities, and towns, providing the first statistical “portrait” of these communities on a wide range of key socioeconomic and housing topics.
Newly released data, in Excel format, was generated from American Community Survey (ACS) estimates combining three years of survey responses (2005-2007). The three-year data can produce estimates for areas as small as 20,000 people.
The data is in such areas as median family income, median home value, age of housing stock, employment, education, age of residents, veterans as a share of total population, and more.
The Census Bureau identified the 20 fastest-growth mid-sized counties in terms of percentage population increase from 4/1/00 to 7/1/07. The top 10 are: Lincoln County, SD; Lyon County, NV; Jackson County, GA; Dallas County, IA; Broomfield County, CO; Effiingham County, GA; Wasatch County, UT; Nye County, NV; Tooele County, UT; and King George County, VA.
