Tax Credit Advisor, September 2011: The federal low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) program, 25 years old now, has created over 2.4 million affordable apartment units nationwide in communities small to large. A Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies report has called it the “most successful federal affordable housing production and preservation program in the nation’s history.”
This success is due to the program’s unique structure: it relies on public/private partnerships, is flexible in use, and has the private sector (developers, investors) shoulder the financial risks. Read More…
