The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) published a Federal Register notice on 9/3/08 containing an updated list of geographic areas in the U.S. that qualify as difficult development areas (DDAs) under the low-income housing tax credit program. The list includes DDAs in and outside the Gulf Opportunity (GO) Zone. In general, the updated designations are effective for credits allocated after calendar 2008, and for credits for buildings financed by tax-exempt bonds issued after 2008 and placed in service after 2008.
