HUD Seeks Comments on Mortgage Proposal

Tax Credit Advisor, January 2010: HUD is seeking comments by 1/31/10 on a proposal to streamline the transaction approval process under its public housing mortgage program. Under the program, public housing agencies, with HUD’s approval on a case-by-case basis, can mortgage their public housing real estate assets and use the borrowed funds to develop or renovate public housing. The proposed changes are intended to make it easier for PHAs to secure private-sector financing under the program.
