Outstanding Historic Rehabilitation Projects Recognized With 2009 Timmy Awards

Tax Credit Advisor, December 2009: The National Housing & Rehabilitation Association (NH&RA), in association with the National Trust Community Investment Corporation, a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, presented its 2009 J. Timothy Anderson (“Timmy”) Awards for Excellence in Historic Rehabilitation at an awards ceremony in Boston on November 3 as part of the NH&RA 2009 Fall Forum conference.
One winner in each of eight categories plus two judges’ awards were selected by a panel of judges from 23 among finalist projects.
The 2009 categories, and the name, location, and developer of the winning project receiving a Timmy Award in each category, were:
- Best Historic Rehabilitation Utilizing Low-Income Housing Tax Credits – Large (Total Development Cost (TDC) Above $5 Million), Toward Independent Living & Learning Building, Chelsea, Mass. Toward Independent Living & Learning.
- Best Historic Rehabilitation Utilizing LIHTC – Small (TDC of $5 Million or Less), Fairbanks Flats Rowhomes, Beloit, Wisc., Gorman & Company.
- Best Mixed-Income Residential, Baker Lofts, Dorchester, Mass., WinnDevelopment.
- Best Market-Rate Residential, Market at Fifth, Pittsburgh, Pa., Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation.
- Most Innovative Adaptive Re-Use, Charles H. Shaw Technology & Learning Center, Chicago, Ill., Homan Arthington Foundation.
- Best Historic Rehabilitation Utilizing New Markets Tax Credits, Court Square Center, Memphis, Tenn., Telesis Corporation and CGI & Partners Court Square Center, LLC.
- Best Historic Rehabilitation Involving New Construction, Globe Mills, Sacramento, Calif., C.F.Y. Development, Inc.
- Best Commercial/Retail/Non-Residential Project, The Old Cotton Factory, Rock Hill, S.C., Barwick & Associates.
Judges awards for outstanding project went to
- Park Lane at Seaview, Staten Island, N.Y., The Domain Companies; and The Westin Book Cadillac Hotel and Condos, Detroit, Mich., The Ferchill Group.
